Kuching
History: The Sultanate of Brunei ruled Sarawak more than 200 years back but later handed it over to James Brooke, a British adventurer for helping the sultanate to maintain his sovereignty. James Brooke ruled the kingdom and made Kuching the headquarters and capital. The British ruled for 3 generations until the Japanese took over the region until September 1945 after which it was ceded to the British Crown. Sarawak became independent in 1963.
