Long Lama Water Festival Sarawak
Long Lama in Baram will come to life July 1 – 3 with thousands of people expected to watch or participate in the inaugural Long Lama Water Festival 2011.
The organizing committee headed by Lihan Jok, the former Telang Usan state assemblyman has assured a carnival-like atmosphere throughout the three-day festival.
At the same time over RM30,000 awaits winners of the various competitions organized by the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation with the local community.
Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau who is also the festival advisor is scheduled to give away prices to the winners.
Social Development and Urbanistion Minister Tan Sri William Mawan is scheduled to ifficiate at the opening of the water festival on Saturday (July 2) while Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan is expected to officiate at the opening of cultural, arts and heritage night.
“This is an event that the people of Long Lama and nearby villagers are looking forward to,” said Penghulu Desmond, the organizing committee secretary.
He said among the main objectives of organizing the event is to create and promote Long Lama as a tourist destination while maintaining the cultural traditions of the people in Baram.
Meanwhile entries for the various competitions are still open until Friday.

The organizing committee also urged the people in and around Long Lama to come in full force to support the festival.
Boat operators plying rivers in the area are also urged to cooperate and refrain from going into the 3km area fronting Long Lama town, where the festival is being held.
